Your Brilliant Career: Career Development for Women

“This is a really good course as it stands and has a great facilitator”

Team leader, Department for Education

Madeleine Albright famously said: “There is a special place in hell for women who do not help other women.”

Although women are now more visible in public leadership roles, there is no denying that they are still under-represented at the top levels. This highly practical programme addresses the issues, stereotypes, and challenges that women typically face in pursuing their careers and allows space and time for participants to reflect deeply with each other on what they really want.

Too often a career development plan is based on deficit – I want to be THERE, but I’m only HERE.  Or perhaps we feel we SHOULD make a career move because people tell us that is what we ought to do. This workshop harnesses a very different approach: by using an appreciative inquiry technique, we will start to explore what brings participants joy and energy in their working lives, what values, principles and preferences are particularly important to them in their working life, and what strengths and skills they already bring.   This positive yet rigorous approach enables participants to imagine a preferred future that they may not have allowed themselves to dream of until now, and then to consider the steps that need to be put into place to allow this to come about.

The course leader’s facilitative approach provides opportunities for personal reflection and mutual support.

At the Civil Service College, we tailor our courses to each attendee’s role and organisation, ensuring that each participant gets the most out of the training. Our courses and trainers are continuously updated and evaluated to ensure that we are always delivering the best service possible.
