The Civil Service and Public Sector are facing an incredibly difficult time, with budget cuts and political change threatening to undermine morale. However, even in the face of such turbulence, leaders and managers still need to get the best from their staff.
This half day course is designed to help participants make the most out of the eight key ways to enhance empathy and motivation. It will also explore how managers can learn more about the differences between team members and maximise the value diverse talents and perspectives can add to the team's overall performance. Participants will learn to get the best from their staff by understanding their distinct talents, valuing their diversity and originality, as well as knowing how to motivate them in different circumstances.

Angela Blacklaw has a broad range of experience working within and providing training for the public sector. Her expertise cover a range of topics including communication, leadership, wellbeing and resilience and talent management.Read Bio
Angela is an independent consultant, trainer, facilitator and coach. She has years of senior expertise in personal and organisational development, leadership and change, operating at both strategic and practitioner level.
Her skills lie in building warm, honest, authentic and challenging relationships, enabling people to achieve more than they thought possible, and to learn the skills to support and challenge others. She has expertise in a wide range of leadership and talent development including emotional intelligence, communications, change, resilience, coaching skills and systems leadership.
After several years working on policy on HM Treasury, Angela chose to focus on individual and organisational learning as Head of Internal Communications in the Food Standards Agency, Head of Change Communications and Culture Change in Defra, and Head of Talent Development in the Department of Health. She then set up her own consultancy practice and works an associate for a number of respected consultancies, such as Korn Ferry Hay Group, Civil Service College and MindGym. She has worked on award-winning leadership development programmes for the NHS where is a member of the Faculty of the NHS Leadership Academy, she is on the coaching register for the Senior Civil Service and she also teaches creative songwriting at degree level. Angela has worked in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and Mexico; she has also worked with people from most European countries, from Central and South America, and from the USA.
