Recognise the Commercial Moment: Making Better Decisions for Better Outcomes

Commercial decisions are not made only by procurement, finance, or contract management teams. They are made whenever someone defines a need, agrees a change, accepts a delay, approves work, or decides whether to question or challenge.

Commercial problems also rarely begin when they become visible. A delivery failure, disputed obligation, unexpected cost, or damaged relationship may be traced back to a much earlier decision, assumption, or commitment.

In this thought-provoking one-hour webinar, Warren Stonebridge will introduce commercial judgement in plain English and explore how everyday choices can influence value, cost, risk, relationships, and organisational outcomes.

Through relatable examples, participants will see how apparently small decisions at delivery level can accumulate into much wider consequences. They will consider why discernment matters, why integrity requires action and how emotional intelligence and reflection can support better commercial behaviour.

Participants will also be introduced to the Commercial Pause, a simple approach that can help professionals look beyond the immediate task, recognise possible consequences, and ask better questions before choices become commitments.

The webinar provides an initial introduction to the thinking developed more fully through the Commercial Skills for Non-Commercial Professionals programme.

No specialist commercial or procurement background is required.

What participants will explore

Participants will learn how to:

  • Recognise the commercial significance of everyday decisions and actions.
  • Understand why commercial problems may originate long before they become visible.
  • Identify how decisions can create, protect, or unintentionally leak value.
  • Connect individual actions at delivery level with wider organisational consequences.
  • Consider how discernment, integrity, emotional intelligence, and reflective practice support better commercial judgement.

Who is it for?

This webinar is for non-commercial professionals, practitioners, managers and leaders whose decisions influence services, suppliers, programmes, resources, or organisational outcomes.

It will be particularly relevant to people who define needs, support programmes and projects, work with suppliers or delivery partners, manage stakeholder relationships, approve changes or make decisions that may later be subject to challenge or scrutiny.

What will participants take away?

Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of their own commercial influence and a practical approach they can begin using to examine decisions more carefully.

They will also gain an initial insight into how the Commercial Skills for Non-Commercial Professionals programme develops commercial awareness into more confident and consistent judgement, mindset and behaviour.
