NewContract Performance, Relationships and Value Realisation

4. DELIVERY

Commercial Course Journey

Signing the contract starts the real work.

This course gives non-commercial leaders and practitioners the confidence to turn contractual intent into operational value through stronger ownership, active oversight, disciplined performance management and better supplier relationships.

A contract does not deliver value on its own. Value is realised through the way the relationship is managed in practice after the contract has been signed. This is where expectations, behaviours, governance, accountability and performance conversations determine whether the organisation secures the value it intended.

Participants will explore how performance oversight, operational ownership, communication, relationship behaviours and issue management shape whether a contract delivers its intended outcomes. The course makes clear that contracts need active management, defined roles, evidence-led conversations and confident leadership from both commercial and non-commercial teams.

The course helps participants recognise where value is commonly lost after contract award, including unclear ownership, weak mobilisation, poor performance data, passive governance, relationship drift, informal changes to scope and delayed escalation.

Participants will use Sequora’s DRIVE methodology to reflect on live delivery challenges and identify practical actions to strengthen oversight, supplier engagement and value realisation. EQ awareness is used to balance trust with verification, collaboration with challenge and empathy with accountability. Responsible AI-assisted practice is introduced as a way to structure performance thinking, summarise evidence and prepare response options. A recurring theme throughout the day is the value question: where is this adding value? Participants will use this lens to consider how their actions influence requirements, supplier engagement, commissioning, delivery, performance and risk.

Who Can Attend

  • This course is designed for non-commercial leaders and practitioners responsible for, or involved in, post-award contract delivery. It is particularly relevant for contract owners, service managers, operational leads, supplier-facing delivery teams, programme and project managers, commissioning teams involved in delivery, and teams working alongside commercial, procurement, finance, legal or contract management colleagues.
  • Participants do not need to be contract management specialists. The course is designed for those whose decisions, behaviours, oversight or supplier interactions influence whether contracts perform in practice and whether intended value is realised.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of why value is realised after contract award, not at signature. They will be better able to recognise where value can drift or be lost during live delivery, including through unclear ownership, weak evidence, passive governance, poor communication, delayed escalation or unmanaged supplier relationships.

They will develop greater confidence in managing supplier relationships constructively and professionally. Through DRIVE, EQ awareness, responsible AI-assisted practice and the value lens, they will identify practical actions to strengthen contract performance, improve supplier engagement and help turn contractual intent into real operational value.
