NewCommissioning, Procurement and Decision Discipline

This course gives non-commercial leaders and practitioners the confidence to shape stronger commercial commitments by improving the quality of commissioning, procurement readiness and decision-making before formal procurement begins. This is the point where intent becomes commitment. Early conversations, business needs, strategic aims and operational pressures begin to turn into formal commercial decisions. The quality of those decisions shapes procurement, supplier confidence, governance, delivery risk and long-term value. Strong procurement is built on strong commissioning. When requirements are vague, scope is unstable, outcomes are unclear, approvals are weak or assumptions go unchallenged, problems are often embedded from the start.
Participants will explore how to define need, shape scope, clarify outcomes, test assumptions, understand risk and strengthen approval quality before commercial commitments are made. The course positions commissioning as a leadership responsibility, not simply an administrative step before procurement.
Participants will use Sequora’s DRIVE methodology to slow down, examine their thinking and improve decision discipline. EQ awareness is used to support constructive challenge, pressure management and better questions. Responsible AI-assisted practice is introduced as a way to test requirements, surface assumptions, identify evidence gaps and improve decision papers. A recurring theme throughout the day is the value question: where is this adding value? Participants will use this lens to consider how their actions influence requirements, supplier engagement, commissioning, delivery, performance and risk.
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how stronger commercial commitments are created before procurement begins. They will be better able to define need, scope and outcomes, recognise assumptions, identify missing evidence, understand risk and assess whether a proposal is ready to progress.
They will develop greater confidence in constructive challenge and better questioning. Through DRIVE, EQ awareness, responsible AI-assisted practice and the value lens, they will identify practical actions to strengthen commissioning discipline, improve procurement readiness and support better commercial decisions.
