Normalising Emotional and Mental Health in the Workplace

Mental and emotional health is an area that has had increased attention in the last 20 years widening our understanding but more importantly humanising our felt experiences. Despite this increase in our understanding mental and emotional health concerns can still be a taboo subject especially in the workplace where employees may have anxieties about performance and outcomes. 

This course is an introduction to mental health and emotional wellbeing. It is aimed is to help you to have some techniques to improve your own mental and emotional health as well as support you in developing a better work-life balance.

Dr Ian Hesketh

Ian has had a long-term interest in workplace Well-being, Leadership and associated literature. He introduced the concept and phenomena of Leaveism to explain human behaviours associated with workplace workload and stress.

His article on Transformational Leadership during Change was voted one of the top management articles by the UK Chartered Management Institute. His previous book,  Wellbeing at Work (KoganPage) examined how to design, implement and evaluate an effective well-being strategy. He is currently working on the 2nd Edition, which will be published by KoganPage in late 2023.

His current work is focussed on the considerable changes to working practices and terms and conditions that are being enacted in the face of unprecedented change programmes associated with the global pandemic. Crucially, what interventions are effective and enable a fulfilling working life for employees? His book, Managing Workplace Health and Wellbeing during a Crisis (KoganPage) was published in 2022.

Ian hold QTLS and Chartered Manager status and is a Member of the Society for Education and Training, and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
