NewEmbracing Neurodiversity- Beyond Unmasked

Research has consistently shown that on average, neurodivergent people have lower self confidence than their neurotypical peers, leading to higher anxiety, poorer physical health and being less likely to advocate for their needs. There may be many reasons for this, from excessive criticism and subsequent masking to neurological differences in how neurodivergent people process information, that will be unique to every individual.

This full-day workshop aims to help delegates to unpick any negative beliefs they hold about themselves, dare to imagine a life where they have a healthier view of their strengths and the subsequent outcome changes that can follow. They will go on a journey to understand how neurodivergence has impacted their confidence, the impact that negative thoughts have on their self-confidence and how they present themselves to the world, and discover science-backed tools they can use every day to start building an unshakeable confidence.

This course is designed to encourage discussion and foster a sense of community amongst the delegates, which is highly beneficial to understanding that they are not alone in their feelings, as well as creating an environment for them to learn from and support each other.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand what confidence is and why our minds are programmed to prohibit us from feeling automatically confident in new situations (i.e. Imposter Syndrome)
  • Understand how beliefs are formed, how those we may hold about ourselves have held us back and been a catalyst for deteriorating self-confidence
  • Identify our own unique barriers to a more positive mindset and understand the important role emotional regulation plays in nurturing self-confidence.
  • How to recognise dysregulation in ourselves and learn science-backed techniques to self-regulate.
  • Build an everyday toolkit to identify negative thought patterns and replace them with healthier, more confident thoughts.
  • Use the power of their cohort to identify ways to start living more authentically and in a way that works with, rather than against, their neurodivergence
  • Create a practical, personal action plan that captures useful tools and goals identified in the session, with the aim of keeping momentum and embedding powerful lifelong habits.

WHO CAN ATTEND

This course is designed for neurodivergent individuals (self-diagnosed or medically diagnosed) who feel they would benefit from more confidence in their everyday personal and/or professional lives. This course works particularly well for ADHD and ASD individuals, however is also relevant for people with dyslexia, dyspraxia and sensory processing disorders.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Understand what confidence is and how negative thoughts impact our confidence in every situation
  • Have a clear understanding of the link between any negative thoughts about their own neurodivergence and their self-confidence.
  • Understand the impact low confidence has on our outcomes and the difference more positive thoughts can have on our personal, professional and inner lives.
  • Understand the way that our personal dysregulation is demonstrated and the role that regulation plays in replacing negative thoughts and ultimately building and sustaining confidence.
  • Having a unique regulation toolkit for use across multiple situations.
  • Be clear about our own strengths and how to better utilise them.
  • Actively cross-pollinate ideas within the group, utilising the broad range of life experiences, perspectives and tried-and-tested tools and techniques.
  • Have a clear set of goals and actions to take forward, including clear self-sabotage prevention strategies and accountability for positive habit formation.
