National Civil Service Day is an annual event observed in India to honour the unwavering commitment, hard work, and dedication of civil servants who play a pivotal role in the country's development and progress.
Falling on April 21st, this day holds immense historical significance and serves as a reminder of the crucial responsibilities shouldered by civil servants.
The origins of National Civil Services Day came from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister, in April 21, 1947, he addressed the newly appointed Administrative Services Officers at the Metcalf House in Delhi.
In his inspirational speech, Patel emphasized the importance of civil servants in shaping the country's future, referring to them as the "steel frame of India." His words laid the foundation for the annual celebration of National Civil Services Day, first observed in 2006, to recognise and appreciate the efforts of civil servants.
National Civil Service Day is not just a day to honour the dedication of civil servants but also an occasion to reiterate the core values of public service and inspire a sense of collective responsibility towards a nation's progress.
