Why Forecast? A Policymakers’ Guide during Uncertain Times
This introductory webinar is designed to understand some basic issues in forecasting today and how the National Institute Global Econometric Model (NiGEM) can be used to navigate uncertain times. NiGEM is the leading global macroeconomic model, used by both policy-makers and the private sector across the globe for economic forecasting, scenario building and stress testing. The webinar summarises the main features of NiGEM and describes how it may be used to assess some topical and challenging economic issues, including the effects of tariffs, COVID-19 and Brexit.

Dr Corrado Macchiarelli is a Principal Economist in the Macroeconomic Modelling and Forecasting Team of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR).
Read BioDr Corrado Macchiarelli is a Principal Economist in the Macroeconomic Modelling and Forecasting Team of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR). He is also an Associate Professor in Finance and Economics at Brunel University London, a part-time Lecturer at New York University’s Stern School of Business, and a Visiting Fellow in European Political Economy at the London School of Economics. Previously, Dr Macchiarelli was an Economist at the European Central Bank, working chiefly in the Working Group of Forecast on Potential Output.
