Governance & Accountability for Leaders in ALBS & NHS Bodies

Many Non-Executive Directors who join public bodies’ Board often come from the private sector, with limited experience working in the public sector. Governance and accountability have different meaning and expectations in the public sector. It enhances the Board performance if all Board members have the same understanding of what is good governance and what strong accountability looks like.

This virtual online course will equip Board members and senior leaders with in-depth knowledge on governance and accountability through examining key guidance issued by Cabinet Office and HM Treasury. Participants will gain practical insights through analysing case studies, especially scrutiny by the Public Accounts Committee.

Key features:

  • Why do Arm's Length Bodies exist?
  • Understand the Accounting Officer system in teh ALB context
  • What is the current government policy on arm's length bodies
  • What is the relationship between central government and arm's length bodies
  • What are the expectations from Board Members

Who is this virtual training for?

This expert-led virtual training is designed for senior management and Board members of arm's length bodies and NHS bodies. Managers who support the Board will also find this course practical and beneficial.
