This course explores the operations and management of regulators along with the challenges facing them, focusing on issues of social and economic regulation. It will also focus on the distinctive character of the risk-control task and pressures for regulators to prove their worth and effectiveness.

Strategic Management for Regulators is a one-day course that encourages collaboration between those in similar roles, featuring in our Leadership and Management series. Tim Soane

Tim Soane is a strategic leader, counsellor to Ministers and Boards, policy maker, change manager and innovator. He is highly experienced at operating at Board level alongside senior Public Sector Officials, Ministers and Parliament.

Tim has been involved in setting the vision for the growth and success of numerous organisations, while equipping executives with the tools for strategy formulation and implementation to help them successfully deal with change. He has held many Director positions in his career and directed the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills as a Better Regulation Executive, leading delivery of the Coalition Government’s new policies on better regulation and delivering a series of innovation projects to examine in depth particular aspects of regulatory arrangements across departments.

He was a Director at the department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, where he led policy reform on the national minimum wage, as well as individual and collective employment rights, in collaboration with the Treasury and No 10. Tim led the establishment of the new National Minimum Wage strategy for the Prime Minister based on relevant financial and economic evidence, resulting in an agreed new strategic direction.

Tim was also Director of Competitiveness Strategy at the Department of Trade and Industry, where he led the strategic development of new business support schemes and competitiveness for the UK across all government departments. He also directed the Corporate Centre, leading HR strategy, culture change and oversaw the building of IT systems, project and programme management capability.
